Pentecost Sundays June 8th 2025 Reflection

“Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves.”--Genesis 11:4

In today’s world, we are obsessed with names, titles, status, and wealth. These are often the root causes of conflict, envy, and division. Just like the people of Babel, humanity continues to build "towers" in pursuit of recognition and self-glorification.

Yet, deep down, we all know a day will come when we will be gone. And eventually, a time may come when no one remembers us at all. That’s why the saying, “we die twice”; once physically, and again when our name is no longer remembered, can feel both sobering and profound.

Man loves memorials. Walk through a hospital or a church and you’ll see names etched on plaques and buildings, people long gone, but remembered because of their wealth or generosity. Their names remain like the tower of Babel: impressive, but rooted in earthbound legacy.

But while being remembered can be meaningful, there is one remembrance that matters above all: that Jesus and the Father in Heaven remember us. If we build towers on earth and leave behind legacies, yet the Father does not know us when we return to Him, then all our earthly greatness would have been in vain.

Let us strive daily, not just to be known on earth, but to know the Father more deeply. For in knowing Him, He too will know and welcome us when our time here ends.

Come Holy Spirit!

God bless you.
