We all knew when it came to light last Friday that Elon Musk would be winding down his role in the U.S. government as a special government employee at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), there was always more to the story than we were made to know.
Fast forward to today, and they have a public feud. More than just drama, there are a lot of lessons to be learned here.
First, no loyalty in this age of ours.
It has been less than five months now since Musk was in the Oval Office, taking questions and being so upbeat about his work in the government. He had gotten closer to the seat of government as a private citizen, more so than anyone in history. His enemies were upset about his unfettered access to President Trump.
I wrote a personal reflection about Musk right after the election, touching on his motives in the government and his investments. He always liked to make sure his ROI was protected and intact.
Now publicly, Musk says Trump couldn't win the 2024 election without him. He probably knows more than we all do out here.
Trump fired back, saying he was very disappointed in Elon given that he knew more about his bill that was the center of all of this. Elon fired back again, saying the only reason why the Epstein files weren’t fully released as promised was because President Trump was in them too.
As far I'm not concerned because that is not newsworthy. Hate him or love him, Trump is who he is.
What is so surprising is that Musk thinks, with all his wealth and influence, he could just take advantage of the most powerful office for his personal enrichment. Musk’s wealth would diminish overnight if the U.S. government decided to scrutinize him. Look at Tesla stock after Trump threatened to revoke Elon government contracts. It dropped in value by over 14% wiping out over $154 billion in a single day.
It’s not a good feud between the two. Elon is alleged to be the world’s richest man, and Trump, without any dispute — is the world’s most powerful man, at least for the next three years.
Trump is new to politics, despite the fact that he’s not your traditional politician. Musk is a businessman and what business-minded people do best is always looking out for their own selfish interest. That is what Musk has been doing.
His distaste apparently started with the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” as stated earlier, that the Trump government is introducing to Congress. There’s not much in that bill to benefit Musk, and he has expressed his displeasure about it.
It was being rumored recently that this was the case, but now with this public brawl, those rumors might just be true.
The two men undeniably have giant egos, and it’s no surprise they fell apart so soon. Most of us believed this was going to happen. Personally, I'm not surprised, it was just a matter of time. That time just happened to come so quickly.
So that’s my take on that.
I remain your pal.
