Reflection:
The question Jesus places before us today from the Gospel reading is simple: Who truly does the Father’s will? Today’s readings show that it is not the one who appears righteous, nor the one who speaks well, but the one who allows grace to change the heart.
Ezekiel reminds us that God looks at the present moment. A person who turns toward God-even after a long history of failure-finds life. A person who turns away-even after a long history of goodness-loses it. What matters is not reputation but conversion.
The Psalm teaches the posture of the true disciple: “Guide me… teach me… remember your mercy.” The one who does the Father’s will is the one who knows he needs God.
Philippians shows us the pattern: Christ emptied Himself, humbled Himself, and obeyed the Father completely. Obedience born of humility is the shape of real holiness.
And in the Gospel, the son who said “no” but later repented is the one who actually fulfilled the Father’s desire. Words alone do not save. A changed heart does.
Today’s reflection is simple: God is not asking for perfect speech or perfect history-He is asking for a heart willing to turn, obey, and begin again.
