"This is where Mary plays an important role. Especially in John’s Gospel, Mary evokes Israel—summoning the patriarchs, prophets, and all the great figures". When Mary says, “They have no more wine,” she speaks for humanity, for Israel, crying to its Creator: We’re lost. We’ve run out of grace. Lord, do something.
Her final words in the Bible: “Do whatever he tells you.” This echoes the faith of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and the prophets.
Jesus then instructs the servants to fill six stone jars with water—180 gallons in total. It’s symbolic of superabundance. Then he changes the water into wine. This marks the moment when grace begins to flow.
The best wine is kept for last—symbolic of the culmination of Revelation in Jesus.
At the Mass, a kind of wedding feast, humanity and divinity are united. The wine of Christ’s blood flows abundantly, offered throughout the ages.
Profound!
God bless you
