Conclave 2025: The Election of a New Pope

Today is Thursday, May 8th, 2025, and it is the second day of the conclave — the election of a new pope. Yes, it is indeed an election: one of the 100-plus Cardinals of the College of the Cardinals will be chosen. One of them will become the next pope. Nobody knows who that will be at this point.

Unlike elections in the secular world, where candidates’ faces are plastered everywhere and campaign events are held to gather support, this process is very different. The secrecy and mystery are amazing. We woke up this morning to the sight of black smoke. If and when a new pope is elected, we will see white smoke rise from the Sistine Chapel where these Cardinals are locked up from the influence of the outside world during this process. It after this that the world will be introduced to this newly pope.

It's worth noting that the election of Pope Francis took place after 4 black smokes or votes that failed to elect a candidate to the Papacy and on the 5th ballot he was elected.

It's obvious that this is a very important event, both within the Church and around the world. It is a highly spiritual moment, and we must remain prayerful throughout this process.

God bless.

Pal Ronnie
