Farewell to Pope Francis and Praying for another Holy Successor

Pope Francis Passes Away at 88 years of age: A Pontificate Comes to a Close and New One On the Way

It was with deep sadness that the world awoke on the Monday April 21st, 2025 after Easter to the news that His Holiness Pope Francis had passed away at the age of 88.

Just recently, I had reflected on his memorable visit to the United States, where he celebrated Mass at Madison Square Garden in New York City, an event I had the privilege to attend. It was a monumental gathering, marked by the Pope’s humility and warmth. I will never forget how, at the end of that Mass, he turned to the congregation and, in English, simply asked:

“Please pray for me.”

What made this loss all the more shocking was that Pope Francis had made public appearances as recently as Easter Sunday. However, overnight, he reportedly suffered a stroke, fell into a coma, and then succumbed to cardiac arrest.

Mourning rituals and burial ceremonies took place, and today May 7th, 2025, marks the first day of the conclave convened to elect his successor. There was no white smoke per tradition and the election continued.

Pope Francis however, leaves behind an indelible legacy. His pontificate was historic in many ways despite some divide in the church about some of his approach especially towards LBGTQ issues:

A global figure admired for his inclusive and compassionate approach, especially by progressive and liberal communities worldwide.

As the Catholic Church stands at a crossroads, with many souls at stake, we pray for divine guidance in the days ahead.

“May the Holy Spirit, by God’s will, help bring forth a good and morally sound leader.”

This is, ultimately, Christ’s Church.

 Lord Jesus, guide us.

 Amen

God bless 🙌
