“Believe and Trust in Me” – John 14

Believe and Trust in Me”

The key message from Mass today at St. Bartholomew Parish, Scotch Plains was described as challenging. Jesus says:

“Do not let your hearts be troubled… Believe and trust in Me.”

What makes us anxious in today’s world?

We like to be in control. We often trust our jobs, our bosses, the economy, and the government, because the consequences feel immediate if we don’t. Yet, in the middle of all that, Jesus says: trust in Me.

Life gives us many reasons to feel nervous, overwhelmed, and uncertain. Stress comes from all directions, financial pressure, relationships, health struggles, work demands, and the unknown future.

This is the reality we live in.

We face personal struggles, relationship problems, separation, even divorce. We lose loved ones and carry the weight of grief. At times, we feel like failures, unworthy, overwhelmed, and unsure of what lies ahead.

Financial pressure weighs heavily, rising costs of living, bills, debt, job loss, unstable income, and the fear of not being able to provide.

Work brings its own burdens, job insecurity, layoffs, burnout, toxic environments, and the constant pressure to succeed or fear of failure.

Health challenges arise, chronic illness, sudden diagnoses, anxiety, depression, and the responsibility of caring for sick family members.

Life disruptions come unexpectedly, losing direction, major transitions, feeling stuck, or falling behind.

And beyond our personal lives, the world itself feels unstable, economic uncertainty, violence, political division, pandemics, and global crises. The future can feel unclear and unsettling.

Even daily life is overwhelming, constant notifications, endless emails, deadlines, comparisons, expectations, and mental exhaustion.

And yet, in the middle of all this, not after things get better, not when life feels stable, but right in the chaos, Jesus says:

“Do not let your hearts be troubled… Believe and trust in Me.”

Life will always give us reasons to worry.

But faith gives us a reason to stand.

When everything feels uncertain…
Trust Him anyway.
