Pull your Pants up!
I was on board a bus headed to the City, and next to me was this brother of color with his pants literally down below is knees.
I wanted him to pull the pants up but I needed an approach that would be fair and not humiliate him, and ignoring him was going to make me feel bad inside my heart for failure to say a word.
So I decided to engage in conversation with this brother; ranging from school, his age, his height since he looked super tall, his relationship status. To my dismay, he was very cooperative and all my questions were being answered with great satisfaction. From there, I decided to us that opportunity to hit the nail directly on the head, oh yeah. How amazing that was.
But bottom line, I made that brother to understand the fact that, without his pants below his knees, he was still cool and his girlfriend will always love him, as he looks tall and handsome with good sense of approach to everything I asked him. And now, could you please pull your pants up, I requested? And without hesitation, he did. We all felt great afterward and when I got to my destination, he said "bye and thank you".
The morale; don't try to get people to do something with a command because very few or nobody like to be commanded, and if you can, find out why people do the things they do? And then chip in with what you think ought to be about that situation. Don't judge people impulsively and don't be a coward in approaching issues. Give it the best of your conventional wisdom and chances are, you will win.
Happy Friday
