Reflection

Today is St. Padre Pio's feast day and there is alot we can learn from this amazing Saint in the Church.

In the responsorial psalm, we read that God’s word is light that leads us, light for our feet. And Padre Pio himself was the light who led us. Through receiving the stigmata in his hands and his feet and side, he received this sign, and people were curious about that when they heard the news. God had a special calling for him, and people were curious and they looked to him.

There’s a reason behind that, and that reason was for Padre Pio to show the world what it means to accept suffering. Suffering itself can be the light, can be a light and lead us to glory.

Today, people think, “I don’t want suffering. I don’t want to accept that I will suffer.” And they’re resistant to it. If we are resistant to that suffering, we won’t understand how we can persevere through it.

Padre Pio was such a good example to us that when we receive and accept our suffering, we will look and find the light through the grace of God.

And we thank St. Padre Pio for his faith and to show us in the Eucharist that is Jesus in his suffering for us. And Jesus is the one who shows us the light. Every time we receive the Eucharist, we can look at the suffering and how we can accept it, and how we can lead the world, and how it can give us strength and faith in our suffering, that we can find joy through it.

And that is what St. Padre Pio taught us in the Gospel today. Jesus calls the disciples to proclaim the good news, as Padre Pio followed suit.

St. Padre Pio, pray for us.

Amen.
