The above picture is in Libya, and the photo inserted is the ambassador who was killed by angry protesters. His body was said to be flown in from Libya today~Peace be still. |
In the name of religion and God, men are angered by
a movie that has been made and is said to be insulting to the Islamic faith
across the world. I haven’t seen or even read extracts about the movie but
unfortunately, the problems resulting from the said movie is getting out of
hand.
It was on the 11th of September, which
marked the 11th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center
in New York in 2001, that the United States Embassy in Libya was stormed, four
people killed including the ambassador of the US to Libya, and several others
wounded. Cars burned into ashes as well as other valuable items destroyed. It
was in a way something that had little attention from across the world but the following
day, the same anger that ignited this violence in Libya spread its tentacles to
Yemen, another Islamic nation in the middle East, they didn’t kill anybody but
they did a lot of damage to properties including the SUV’s and the
communication systems of the American Embassy there. While the Yemenis were
routing, Egypt was also on the same note doing everything possible to break
into the American Embassy in Egypt. I was shock and shortly afterward, I read a
message from the Secretary of State, Ms. Hillary Clinton, it was very brilliant and
touchy one to see how she expresses sadness in how people could react to
something perceived offensive in such a violent manner.
That notwithstanding, Tunisia, Sudan, and Lebanon were
also out in their numbers on the streets rioting. And this could be the tip of
the iceberg. And not only is this going on out there, but here in the States as
well according to news pieces emerging. There could be impending attacks in the
States if the security forces are not on a look out. Folks are very much alert
about this. Even University of Texas and that of Dakota State University are
closed because there is a bomb threat on this same note of offending the Muslims through the said movie.
My thoughts and question goes back to the root cause
of this problem. What happens to diplomacy, dialogue, and international
relation contracts that countries across the planet often engage themselves in?
Since time immemorial, religion has always been bedrock of conflicts amongst
others and it is a shame that even still in the 21st century, we
fail to incorporate dialogue in our everyday conversation about settling
disputes but still resort to conflict. I think when people realized that this
movie went too far or didn’t meet the taste of Muslims across the globe, why
didn’t leaders with religious, political and cultural diversity come together
to talk to the US and the producers of such that particular movie to banned it?
I know pretty well that, the age at which we live, thus the digital age with
information and messages disseminated with just the click of a mouse is hard to
retract but this could still be possible without bloodshed and loss of lives
leading to destabilization of world peace. Now the result of this could be
bleak to all with fears and the potential for yet another war between the Muslim
world and the United States. We don’t attack diplomats no matter what, the
international peace agencies need to really work hard in the course of this
week and beyond to ensure that, peace pipe is made available to be smoke by the
US and the Islamic World. This world can’t afford wars anymore as our problems
without wars are still unbearable. Look at how economies across the planet are struggled
to stand still.
Please remember to pray for the world for peace
every now and then.
Happy weekend!
