Why My Pieces Are Getting Shorter

Why My Pieces Are Getting Shorter

Someone recently asked me why my pieces keep getting shorter and shorter. The answer was quick and simple: our attention spans have shrunk to historic lows.

Need proof? When was the last time you saw someone physically holding a newspaper or even a book? When was the last time you saw someone listening to the radio? These once-common habits now feel like ancient practices. Trust me, I make the observation wherever I go.

Just two years ago, I was reading a book every week. Today, everywhere you go: on buses, trains, in malls, restaurants, even conferences—everyone has a smartphone in hand. Not just any phone, but one powerful enough to do almost anything the mind can imagine.

I do most of my writing on my phone. I write like I’m texting someone. Sometimes people around me ask, “What are you always doing?” That’s when it hits me: we are all becoming victims of a hyper-digital world. And honestly, that scares me, too.

In a world dominated by endless scrolling and 10-second clips, the less I write, the better the chances someone might actually read, and maybe find a little value in these mini reflections.

But just so you know, I still write long pieces. I just keep those for myself, for future reference.

Please, make time to read. Reflect. Write something. That’s how we keep our minds alive.

I remain,

 Pal Ronnie
