Reflection
Today is the first Tuesday of the month of September and we should all be grateful for this gift of life. As a clinician, life is revered everyday as gift. Our first reading reminds us today that “the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.” The Thessalonians were anxious about when the Lord would return, but St. Paul redirects their focus. What matters is not the timing, but the way we live. Live life like today could be our last. Again, as a clinician we have since young people passed while people in their 90s living good and healthy lives.
We are children of light, not of darkness. To live as children of light means being ready at every moment, not in fear, but in faithfulness. Too often, we fall into the temptation of asking “when?” rather than living “now.” But Paul teaches us: salvation is not about playing a last-minute game. It is about daily commitment, constant readiness, and steady faith.
The psalm echoes this hope: “I believe I shall see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living.” The goodness of God is not only in the distant future but here and now, in forgiveness, in charity, in love shared today.
So let us not delay. Forgive now. Love now. Serve now. Reconcile now. Do good now. For whether the Lord comes today or tomorrow, may He find us living as sons and daughters of the light.
God bless you.
Have a wonderful day.
