Daily Mass Reflection – Memorial of St. John Chrysostom
First Reading – 1 Timothy 1:15–17
“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. Of these I am the foremost. But I was mercifully treated, so that in me, Christ Jesus might display his patience as an example for all who would believe in him for eternal life.”
The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm – Psalm 113
Blessed be the name of the Lord forever.
Gospel: Luke 6:43–49
Jesus said to his disciples: “A good tree does not bear rotten fruit, nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit… Every tree is known by its fruit… The one who hears my words and acts on them is like a man building a house on solid rock. When the flood came, the house could not be shaken because it was well built. But the one who listens and does not act is like a man who built a house without a foundation; it collapsed at once and was completely destroyed.”
Reflection
The parable of the two houses reminds us that what is hidden often matters most. On a sunny day, both houses looked the same. But when the storm came, only the one built on rock endured. Our lives are much the same. Outward appearances may look strong, but if we lack a solid foundation, the storms of life, illness, loss, conflict, or fear, can shake us to the core.
Jesus invites us to build our lives on him, the sure foundation. Not only to hear his words, but to live them. Faith rooted in Christ enables us to endure the challenges of life with patience, hope, and strength. St. John Chrysostom, whose eloquence and steadfastness we honor today, built his life on the rock of Christ. May his example inspire us to do the same.
And we we all pray for peace in our world and to an end to violence and hatred of one another.
Amen 🙏
God bless and have a blessed day.
