Is College Worth It?

I have been having a very heated argument with friends lately about college. Most of my friends right after high school professed the need to not go to college for reasons not well established. One, they said college was and is still very expensive and I remember on of them saying the most scandalous institutions in America is higher education which is to say colleges. They are over price, he said, which of course is true. The average college tuition in America is over $20,000.00. Even a college I encountered with for some undergrad courses, the tuition to go there is roughly $42,000.00 per year. That is still cheaper compared to other universities. But that doesn't mean that whatever you are studying, you will finish and come out and have that dream job or profession at hand. It just means that you will be a well informed person coming out into the world to hustle like everyone else for survival. Nonetheless as the saying goes, if you think education/college is expensive then try ignorance for sure.

They also claim there are a lot of successful people in America without a college education and yet they are very successful. They even gave me names of a couple as Bill Gate, Mark Z of FB etc etc. But they missed the point of course. Looking at the reverse side of the story, there are many people in jails right now who if they had had the opportunity to have a college education would have been better decision makers which would have prevented them from jails but they didn't.

One John Green, whom I personally love to listen to perhaps explains it well and I will like you to have a look at his YouTube video on the subject.

So next time you are with a group of young people like I usually do and they think they know it all with colleges, try to convince them to stop thinking college is useless because it is dangerous for their minds.

Have a great Friday,
Pal Ron,
