When I saw this picture, I couldn’t help but laugh. It’s the kind of thing worth sharing, so here I am putting it on the blog.
But just imagine, for a moment, if it were actually possible: would it be a good deal to trade California for Ukraine?
On one hand, Ukraine is believed to hold trillions of dollars’ worth of rare earth metals. From a strategic and economic standpoint, that’s huge. On the other hand, California is home to Silicon Valley, a tech hub that powers innovation worldwide. Its annual GDP output is over $5 trillion, the largest of any U.S. state.
Beyond the economy, California also provides America with vital access to the Pacific Ocean and its vast coastline.
Ukraine would certainly be valuable for the U.S., both economically and strategically, but giving up California? That’s a tough one.
Realistically, America would never let go of it, not even through secession, let alone a trade.
So let’s just leave it as a funny thought experiment.
